by palmtree67 inricky gervais tweeted this 11/14/12 and i totally agree with it:.
"there are good atheists and bad atheists.
there are good believers and bad believers.. no god has ever changed that.".

first, i fully recognize i've been a religious mud slinger and a part of the problem.
since joining up, i've noticed that there is no self regulation and a truce would be much easier to respect if both sides were to do so.
so nontheists should slap each other upside the head when we say something mean spirited to theists
theists should do the same when they say something mean spirited or baiting to nontheists
and i've also noticed, since joining, there's been some very mean spirited posts against muslims. there are very few here to defend against that. one of the few muslims on here just so happens to be an old friend from the hall i grew up in. surreal that we reconnected on here after so many years. i suspect, though i haven't asked, that he doesn't post much on here because of those sorts of posts. muslims aren't terrorists. we can point to any faith and see many examples of equally heinous acts. it would be nice if there wasn't so much silence in that regard. especially from fellow theists. after all, while there are many different flavors of theism, the endgame is all the same. there is a creator/god, who by virtue of life and creation, has earned the right to be worshipped/respected in some way shape or form.
at the very least, i think we can all agree that the jehovah's witnesses suck ass...that's something to build a truce on, right?

Taking alcohol into the veins (WBT$ illo) - can someone deconstruct this for me?
by punkofnice inok. so i've heard that the wbt$ say that having alcohol into the body intraveniously (how do you spell it?
), when the doctor says you shouldn't have alcohol is baaaadddd!
so you wouldn't have a blood transfusion because invisible sky friend jar hoover says it's baaaaaddddddd.. no doubt the illustration is beyond crazy but how is the best way to deconstruct it?.

wine = ethanol + water +sugars and flavors from the grapes/fruit
it's the ethanol that you shouldn't take by iv. or by butt chugging but that's a hole 'nother matter. pun totally intended.
the bible does say that a little wine(ethanol) is good for the stomach doesn't it?
so is drinking a little blood good for the stomach? even though it's not a smart thing to do by iv?
jesus turned water into wine(ethanol)
the very ethanol that we know is not something we should take by iv. what does that say about jesus?

Analysis of anti-607 BCE Rebuttals
by Ethos ini agreed yesterday to engage in the '607' topic.
i've read numerous threads and am well aware that this topic has been addressed and dissected quite thoroughly.
therefore, if you are uninterested in participating, that's fine.

i just want to say, ethos, you are very brave.
and i mean that.
when i was still a jw, i stumbled across this site. i forgot how and quickly exited. this was at least 6 or 7 years ago i think.
i was too afraid to look and challenge myself. besides, we were always counciled to not go on "apostate websites".
what you're doing is commendable because you're actually putting your beliefs to the test.
what i sincerely hope you will do is look at the evidence presented to you with an honest and open mind.
just keep in mind that the central thing that distinguishes jws from every other religion is 1914 and 607 bce. without 607, there is no 1914 and at that point everything else falls apart.
good luck and try and look with an open mind to make sure you are not being mislead, just as the boereans (totally forgot the spelling) supposedly did.

does anyone feel messed up sexually because of being brought up as jw? like you have missed out, etc?
by johnjones3210 inhiya,.
i'm new to this forum but just wanted to talk to somebody about this.. i was brought up as a jw and left just over a year ago.
i'm now 26 and feel messed up sexually.

i'll be candid and say i know how that feels. never cheated, but it certainly did mess me up.
if that's the case, isn't that your body's way of telling you that you're not ready for a committed relationship?
i'm not the one to give you suggestions as i'm on my own path, we're all different and by no means am i wise. i will say, i've decided to take the time to fully flesh out who i am and what my needs are as a person outside of a relationship. it sucks being hurt, and it sucks hurting someone else and jumping into all of that without figuring out self seems like a surefire way to disaster.

Do JWs Still Feel The Need To Understand Their Teachings Or Have They Pretty Much Abandoned That Idea?
by minimus ini think most jws do not know how to explain their religious beliefs.
i don't think they could explain their views of 607 b.c.e.
, 1914, any prophetic bible books, the old vs. the new fds understanding, the blood fraction reasoning, etc.. do you think the average witness is able to explain from the bible why they believe things as they do?.
-

as a jw who was fully indoctrinated with fear, that 1914 thing never made sense to me. there was no proof for me at all other than ww1, so i simply accepted it without bothering to try to wrap my head around it.

Can YOU solve the following Paradox??
by Terry inbefore i address the paradox (a statement that contradicts itself) i want to insert a fact from history.. .
the romans used a malleable (and highly poisonous) metal (lead) for water pipes and conduits.
as snows melted into pure water, it was channeled into sluices and pipes made of lead that ran through the cities as drinking water.. .
-
rather be in hades
Well, in answer to your paradox question (why trust man with a message, etc)... we shouldn't. We should drink our water directly from the source... no need for lead pipes at all.
that was smooth. i still don't believe, but that was smooth lol.
how do you know you're drinking water? ;)

Apostates and the Holy Spirit
by iamwhoiam ini've heard elders say more than once that if the congregation isn't productive, there is probably an apostate in the midst; since the holy spirit doesn't seem to be upon the congregation.
anyone ever hear similar claims before?.
-

i wonder if one of those elders saying that was also molesting children in the flock...
